On walks, should dogs greet other dogs?
Background
Many owners believe sniffing hellos on walks build social skills and make outings more fun. Others point out that on-leash meetings can raise tension and spark fights, and the other dog may be fearful or unwell, so passing politely is the safer default. Almost everyone agrees you should ask the other owner first.
