Cats groom themselves well, but long-haired breeds or cats with skin conditions can benefit from regular baths to prevent mats and flaking. Most cats, however, strongly dislike water, so many owners bathe only when the cat is truly dirty or a vet recommends it. For plenty of cats, regular brushing is all they need.
