Hooded boxes keep litter from scattering, contain smells and may offer privacy to cats that like to hide while they go. But odour can build up inside, and a single exit can feel confining, with some studies suggesting many cats prefer open boxes. Ultimately the right box is the one your cat actually uses happily.
