Should bearded dragons get occasional outdoor sunbathing?

Background

Bearded dragons make vitamin D3 from sunlight, and many keepers notice livelier lizards after short, supervised sessions in natural sun. Others say a quality UVB tube and basking lamp are entirely sufficient, while the outdoors brings overheating, birds of prey and escape risks. Everyone agrees outdoor time needs shade and constant supervision.
