Why

Blueberries contain antioxidants like anthocyanins plus fiber and vitamins, and their small size makes them handy training treats. The sugar can cause diarrhea in larger amounts, and very small dogs could choke if they gulp them. Blueberry muffins, jam and flavored yogurt are high in sugar.

How to give it / if eaten

Rinse and serve fresh or frozen. About two or three berries for cats and small dogs and around ten for large dogs keeps treats under 10% of daily calories. Halve them for tiny dogs.

Watch for these signs

Too many can cause loose stool, diarrhea or darker-colored stool. A berry stuck in the throat causes gagging or coughing.

FAQ

How many blueberries a day is okay?

Roughly two or three for cats and small dogs, about five for medium dogs and around ten for large dogs. Start with fewer and check the stool.
