Why
Meat, kimchi and fried dumplings almost always contain allium vegetables like garlic chives, green onion, onion and garlic. These stay toxic even when cooked, damaging red blood cells and causing anemia. Kimchi dumplings are spicy and salty, and fried dumplings are greasy, adding stomach upset and pancreatitis risk. Cats are especially sensitive to alliums.
How to give it / if eaten
If your pet ate a dumpling, call your vet or an emergency clinic right away, even without symptoms. Share how many, when, and what kind (with the package ingredient list if you have it). Don't induce vomiting at home without a vet's instruction.
Watch for these signs
The same day: vomiting, diarrhea, drooling or poor appetite. One to five days later, watch for anemia: weakness, pale gums, fast breathing and red or brown urine.
FAQ
My dog only ate the dumpling wrapper.
The wrapper is just wheat dough and isn't very harmful on its own. It may have soaked up filling juices, though, so call your vet if it was a lot or your dog is small.
What about dumplings with only meat?
Even 'meat' dumplings usually contain onion, green onion and garlic. Unless you can confirm no alliums on the label, treat it as risky and call your vet.
